Registered Nurse

This is a Contract position in Sidney, BC posted August 9, 2021.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Registered Nurse General Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems Division The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is Canada’s largest psychiatric hospital with a history of excellence in clinical care and research.

The General Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems Division is seeking a full-time, temporary Registered Nurse (RN).

You will join a team of health care providers working in the Acute Care service to conduct the first ever intensive study of patient safety in a mental health inpatient setting.

Your role will be pivotal to the project, working daily on the inpatient ward to observe, detect and describe potential safety incidents.

Position Description Work is completed in the care station of a general psychiatric unit on two different shifts (8am
– 4pm and 1pm-9pm).

Responsibilities will include reviewing medical records daily screening for events using a structured screening tool.

Attend all team interprofessional rounds using screening tool to identify events.

Engage in discussions with interprofessional team members to identify and clarify events.

Complete data entry for each potential event using REDCap.

Coordinate weekly research team meetings including preparing a summary of potential events from the previous week in Powerpoint format for review in the meeting.

Enter the results of event assessments into REDCap at the weekly meetings including a summary of decision-making.

Assist in producing monthly reports with basic statistics and summary charts.

Perform basic literature searches as well as gathering, organizing and entering event reports and other information into databases and maintaining filing systems.

Ability to read statistical output is required as well as the ability to clean and present statistical results.

Collaborate effectively with team members in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.

Qualifications The successful candidate must be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S.


Preference will be given to candidates who possess or are currently pursuing a B.Sc.N and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.

Previous experience working in an interdisciplinary clinical team is required.

Previous experience in a CAMH acute care service is an asset.

Previous training and experience in designing and executing quality improvement projects is an asset.

Previous experience in health service setting, preferably a hospital setting is an asset.

Prior experience as a member of a research project team is strongly preferred.

Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions fully.

Detail oriented with demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to produce high quality and accurate work while meeting program deadlines and requirements.

Superior interpersonal skills, communication (oral/written) skills are required.

Demonstrated experience in providing feedback on performance in a professional setting.

Familiarity with REDCap including data entry, database management and creating reports is an asset.

Familiarity with common statistical software (i.e., SPSS, MiniTab or SAS) is an asset.

Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint to prepare data summaries and reports.

Previous experience writing research reports and manuscripts.

Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Salary Range: $33.90
