Registered Nurse, Emergency Psychiatric Liason (full Time) Hiring Now!

This is a Contract position in Dawson Creek, BC posted September 17, 2021.

Position Summary Reporting to the Manager of Specialized Services and under the supervision of the Intensive Case Management Team Leader, and working as a multidisciplinary team member, performs intake assessment, crisis intervention, and direct patient care to Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) patients in the Emergency Department and/or other inpatient units, in accordance with the BC College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP). Provides input into and assists with ensuring effective patient flow for assessed and admitted MHA patients including those awaiting transfer for further assessment; assists with patient admission and transfer to ensure MHA services and bed destination is achieved in a timely manner. Within the context of a patient service culture, screens and assesses patients to develop plans of care. Collaborates with Emergency Department Nurses, other emergency service providers, multidisciplinary community Mental Health and Addictions teams and other community service providers and assists in adapting care plans to address psychiatric needs.   Qualifications Education, Training and Experience:
Registration with BC College of Nursing Professionals as a practicing RN or RPN registrant.
Two (2) years’ recent related experience in a crisis or emergency psychiatry setting or in acute psychiatry, out-patient psychiatry or after-hours mental health or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:
 Ability to work cooperatively with other care providers to facilitate and enhance inter-agency and interdepartmental problem solving.
 Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both verbally and in writing.
 Ability to deal with others effectively, including establishing and maintaining rapport with psychotic and crisis-prone individuals.
 Ability to proactively and effectively resolve issues impacting on quality and continuity of care.
 Ability to organize work, and to set and adjust priorities in relation to identified risk factors.
 Ability to work independently in a self directed manner.
 Ability to operate related equipment.
 Working knowledge of violence management protocols and Mental Health Act provisions.
 Comprehensive knowledge of emergency triage procedures, mental health and addictions assessment, psychopharmacology, general counselling principles and interview techniques, crisis theory, abnormal psychology, DSM 5 diagnosis, de-escalation techniques, seclusion and restraint practices, and community resource and social service utilization.
 Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
