Process Automation Specialist Job Location: Nanticoke, ON Job Type: PermanentAbout the role:We are seeking talented, motivated people to help us create the next generation of Stelco, known for consistently out-performing the competition, delivering superior returns, and creating value for our customers as a world-class supplier of innovative steel products and solutions.Safety is the Core Value of Stelco and the individual will make Safety their first priority in all work activities.This position reports to the Lake Erie Finishing Automation Manager.Responsibilities:Implement manufacturing process improvements through software changes in multiple high-level languages; Design, develop, troubleshoot and otherwise maintain critical process control system servers, HMIs, relational databases, and web servers; Learn and understand the steel hot rolling process and apply appropriate software control technologies to maximize operating efficiencies; Analyze manufacturing process improvement requests and design software solutions based on those requirements; Work with personnel from various disciplines in a manufacturing environment toward continual improvement in production capabilities; Demonstrate leadership skills by successfully managing projects from start to finish, including significant interactions with internal customers; Design, develop, test, verify and document software changes for the production environment; Support the critical production systems in a timely fashion to maximize operating efficiencies with minimal interruption, including off-hours on-call response; Use a mix of computer software technologies including C, Fortran, VB, SQL, C++, C#, Java to extend automation functionality.

Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or similar program,Vocational experience with programming in one of C, C#, C++ or Fortran; Familiarity with object-oriented programming and the ability to learn new programming languages; Working knowledge of SQL, including experience with one of the following: Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL; Knowledge of communication network protocols including TCP/IP and UDP; History configuring the MS Windows family of operating systems; Preference given to those candidates with previous experience in process control in a manufacturing environment such as steel, automotive, oil and gas; Experience withOpenVMS, Linux, QNX operating systems would be considered an asset; A positive attitude with an interest in expanding responsibilities.A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are requiredJob Skills and Knowledge:Background in Process Control theory including sampling, filtering, signal processing, PID control, and process modeling; Strong verbal communication, written communication, and listening skills; Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills; Demonstrated analytical/mathematical abilities; An interest in career development.Work EnvironmentIncludes work in both office and mill environments with a high impact team.In accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Stelco is an equal opportunity employer who is committed to providing an inclusive and barrier free recruitment and selection process.
