Growing Technician

Arbutus Grove Nursery Ltd.

This is a Full-time position in North Saanich Bc, BC posted September 15, 2021.

We are expanding our team and are looking for a Growing Technician to join the Arbutus Grove Nursery family. This is a full-time position for someone with little experience and a willingness to learn or an experienced growing technician looking to continue their career. The opportunity for continued advancement is available the right individual. Duties:  The successful applicant will work with our Growers as a member of our Grow Team. The main job functions of in this role include but are not limited to: Support/Lead a small team during harvest helping support seasonal workers (safety/quality/production) during our busy harvest (lift) period.* Assistance during seedling lift via quality checks, record keeping and production under direction of the lifting coordinator* Seed preparation and handling for the sowing line, under direction of the sowing coordinator* Thinning and cuttings support of seasonal team under direction of the Production Supervisor* Participate in and role model AGN’s safety program* Assist in carrying out the nursery irrigation plan through block weight measurement, sprinkler checks and repair* Monitor crop environmental conditions via Argus computer system and physical checks* Carry out data and sample collection including seedling measurement and assessment* Assist in the Integrated Pest Management program monitoring pest issues, developing and implementing plans Requirements:  * Growing experience and/or a Green Thumb* Ability to work outside and in greenhouses with exposure to temperature extremes* Ability to work independently on weekends caring for the crop* Team player and good communicator* Willingness to learn with successful applicants required to take in house training* Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Access)* A Diploma or Degree in Horticulture is considered an asset but not required* Ability to supervise and lead a small team in safe work practices* A Pesticide Applicators Certificate will be required (training provided) Hours and Workdays:   Standard hours of operation are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with a 40 hour per week regular work schedule.   Shift and weekend work are also required during our busy periods. Compensation/Benefits:   This position starts at $19.40/hr for an entry-level role and increases with experience.AGN has a comprehensive benefits and compensation plan after the probationary period including: Extended Health, Vision Care, Dental Care, Wellness Benefits, Profit Sharing, Birthday off with pay, Extra 80 hrs pay Christmas Bonus.
