Reporting to the Manager, Project Development Engineering, it’ll be your responsibility to the development of innovative solutions to customer needs, generating technical deliverables, supporting the commercial leads in development of business cases, and effectively applying project development skills to help map out the execution of new projects.

In this position, you also get to work closely with the Business Development team partners to set short and long-term objectives and priorities, and helps provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and services to achieve those objectivesWhat Else You Get To Do: Technical DevelopmentWork with the Business Development teams to understand and define customer requirements.Identify, evaluate, and select Innovative and optimal technologies and solutions to meet customer needs.Lead internal and external resources to develop appropriate-level capital cost estimates and schedules to support commercial proposal and contract development.Work with a diverse group of support resources involving internal groups (engineering, regulatory, contracts, land, etc.), affiliate companies, and external partners (consultants, engineering firms, and construction groups) in order to support the development of new projects.Contribute to the development of business cases, authorizations for expenditure, and business plans.Project ManagementAct as project manager, and project engineer as required, to manage all assigned projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution, cost tracking, forecasting and some project controls.Ensure projects are developed promoting a safe work culture and environmental best practices.Comply with, and champion, Company business unit project management policies and procedures.Involve key stakeholders, including Operations, Engineering, Regulatory, and HSSE during project development.Lead transition of projects from the Business Development group to the Projects & Construction group for projects that achieve sanction and proceed to Execution.Innovation and TechnologyDevelop a working level understanding of technology and innovation trends in the Company’s areas of base business and future growth.Specific focus areas of hydrogen, RNG, CCUS or others may be assigned.Communicate trends and new technologies to internal stakeholders.PlanningDevelop and maintain long term infrastructure plans.Work with the Commercial team to monitor demand forecasts and with the Engineering team to track infrastructure capacity.Review existing customer contracts to understand how they may affect the delivery of services to potential future customers.Develop high level strategies to consider likely ” What if” scenarios.Communicate future potential facility needs to internal stakeholders.Who You Are:Undergraduate degree in Engineering preferably with Chemical or Process major.Minimum 5 years energy industry experience after completion of degree program.Professional Engineering designation with APEGA is required.PMP/ CAPM or equivalent would be an asset.Experience with the development of both large and small projects, from conception.Knowledge of operations in a syngas related application such as hydrogen, methanol or ammonia production is strongly desired.Experience with other hydrogen applications such as electrolysis, fuel cells, refueling stations and liquefaction would be an asset.Ability to perform duties and responsibilities independently, with engagement, and initiative.Ability to work effectively in a team environment with strong cross-functional relationships.Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, with the ability to present information meaningfully to a variety of different audiences.Proven Project Management knowledge and skills.Strong computer, analytical and problem-solving skills.Knowledge of MS Project, Unifier and Primavera P6 would be an asset.Familiarity with techniques in economic evaluation and risk assessment would be an asset.Excellent organizational skills.Highest level of integrity and ethics.High level of energy and enthusiasm.Ability to prioritize conflicting demands and meet deadlines.Comprehensive understanding of how safety and regulatory requirements influence facility development.Engineers with strong background in the operation of other industries such as refineries, chemical production or upgraders, will be considered.We would like to thank everyone for their application; however, only those being considered for an interview will be contacted.AES is part of ATCO Ltd.
