GeoVerra: Survey Crew Chief


This is a Full-time position in Jardins-Mackenzie-King, QC posted July 22, 2021.

GeoVerra is currently seeking a Survey Crew Chief to join our Geomatics team, located in Ottawa, Ontario.

Reporting to the Field Crew Coordinator this position will present the opportunity to work one the most exciting projects in Canada by joining a locally-dedicated GeoVerra team of young professionals who are heavily embedded in the use of advanced technology for precision surveys and 3D scanning.Key ResponsibilitiesManage and perform field survey work; Liaise with Project Managers and Site Supervisors to coordinate field survey work, to review and manage project budgets, timeline requirements, priorities and survey methodology; Act as a company representative, liaising directly with client field representatives and land owners; Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists and digital data in required formats for Project Managers, Land Surveyors and Drafting personnel; Control data processing and adjustment; Provide guidance and mentorship to Survey Assistants working with you; Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, more efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology; Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the GeoVerra safety program; Some office technical survey work may be required in this position; andOther duties as assigned/requiredRequired ExperienceGraduate of a recognized post-secondary program related to surveying, geomatics or have an equivalent amount of related experience; BSc.


(Geomatics) Degree is an asset; 6-10 years of experience in a survey Crew Chief role; Must have experience and an excellent understanding of high precision control surveys (conventional/GNSS) and data collection methods; Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software including GPS, Robotic Total Stations, UAVs, and Laser Scanners; Knowledge and experience of Trimble and Leica equipment and software, laser scanning would be considered a strong asset; Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment; Effective verbal and written communication skills; Ability to produce accurate and legible field notes; The ability to develop and motivate survey crew and work well in a team environment; An aptitude fordelivering projects on time and budget; Experience withthe use of ATVs/UTVs, snowmobiles and chainsaws would be considered an asset; A valid G driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract; Ability to obtain site access security; Completed training and valid tickets in First Aid, H2S, height awareness, fall arrest and CSTS safety training, is an asset; As this is a safety and security sensitive position, the successful candidate must be able to pass a drug & alcohol test, a police background check and qualify to obtain site access clearance.Working ConditionsOut of town work and frequent travel required; Ability to carry, lift and push 50lbs+ on a regular basis; Ability to workoutside in all weather conditions; GeoVerra has every intention of fostering diversity within and across our organization.
