Director, Platform Operations

The Platform Operations team is behind some of Canada’s most-used payments platforms, including Interac e-Transfer.

We design for 99.999%, 24/7 availability, ensuring Canadians can rely on Interac solutions whenever and wherever they want.

Using best of breed industry strategies and predictive systems management platforms, we effectively support and monitor active, high availability solutions across multi regions, datacenters and cloud providers.

We also use AI-Ops, combining big data and machine learning to automate IT operations processes, including event correlation, anomaly detection and causality determination to make sure you always have control over your money.

You’re a passionate, hard-working individual with great attention to detail and a positive attitude.

This is a management-level position, you’ll be responsible for actively managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of internal and off-the-shelf applications in production.

You will lead and act promptly, decisively, without delay to make sure that the core systems are reliable, available, scalable, and secure.

You must be creative, self-directed, and understand application development, application release and platform support methodologies.

You’re great at… Understanding the whole solution, how applications, infrastructure and networking come together to delivery high performing, highly available and reliable solutions.

Leading and building highly motivated, technical teams, with a focus on fostering a culture of “application availability is job 1”.

Championing the evolution and implementation of DevOps and CloudOps teams Leveraging AI-Ops and other systems management tools to ensure all platforms are monitored and managed, with a focus building a predictive and preventive culture and solutions.

Driving innovation through observation of common platform and application problems to identify emerging needs, alternative or emerging solutions, and opportunities for improving stability of existing solutions.

Partnering closely with other operations, application, infrastructure and 3rd party teams in any problem analysis and resolution and in infrastructure configuration management activities.

Providing a holistic view of the production environment and ensuring outstanding issues are tracked and resolved, particularly long-term strategic fixes.

Managing incident teams and effectively determining appropriate courses of action.

Managing high performing level two support teams.

Partnering with application vendors and internal teams to maintain the application technology stack.

Actively participating in platform and application architecture.

Leading and driving the application release process.

Leading the development of tools and utilities as needed.

Lead a team who is in a rotating on-call support environment and participating when required.

Participating and performing stress testing, smoke testing and automated security testing.

Operating at a group/enterprise-wide level as a senior subject matter expert.

Influencing how teams/groups work together.

Applying expertise and thinking creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to multiple, interdependent, complex problems.

Communicating abstract concepts in simple terms.

Fostering strong internal and external networks and working with and across multiple teams.

Who are you?

You have a University Degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

You have experience in ITIL processes and managing critical incidents.

You have a minimum 10 plus years in application management experience, providing 24x7x365 production support.

You have a minimum of 2 years of experience leading application support teams.

You have a minimum of 5 year of hands-on development experience in a Java based environment.

You have advanced experience, managing high-throughput, scalable, low latency business, or mission critical systems.

You possess a deep understanding and have strong critical thinking/problem solving capabilities to solve for complex production issues.

You have advance knowledge and understanding of systems/software development life cycle management and DevOps practices combined with experience in a Continuous Integration and Delivery environment.

You have experience in managing on-premise and cloud-based applications.

You have excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.

You have solid experience building application and infrastructure monitoring using tools such as Splunk, ELK, App, Dynamics, or Nagios.

You have experience using database technologies such as SQL and Oracle.

You have experience using and understanding middleware technologies such as Tomcat, JBOSS, or messaging platforms.

You have experience analyzing scalability, throughput, and load testing metrics.

You have experience using CI/CD automation/build tools (Maven, Git, Jenkins, TeamCity, Ansible).

You have strong knowledge of Linux/Unix.

You have working knowledge of network and secure web application programming principles.

You have good written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to interact with others in a team environment.
