For more information, visit www.Telesat.Com.About the RoleAs part of the Telesat LEO Network Landing Stations team, the Software Architect provides expertise supporting the architecture, design, and implementation of SDN (Software Defined Networking) and NFV (Network Functions Virtualization) for Landing Stations (gateways).

The purpose of the job is to:Bring engineering expertise related to the design and deployment of satellite gateway systems that provide highly effective remote operational access to satellite, network and facilities systems at Landing Stations; Manage technical relationships with selected vendors through the development, delivery phases and follow on support phases of the program to deliver baseband for the Telesat LEO Network; Take responsibility for landing station software capabilities required to support Landing Station deployment, commissioning and bringing into operation, including planning, support and execution of validation testing; Support development of and deliver Landing Station remote operational processes and procedures and diagnostics training; Support LEO Systems Engineering in analysis and modelling operational performance as it relates to Landing Stations.Main ResponsibilitiesDefine architecture of LEO Landing Station packet processing softwareTest and validate systems and subsystemsWrite scripts and/or code to extend systemsPerform technical and programmatic trade-offs of solutionsDevelop and document system requirementsDevelop and execute test plansDevelop and deliver training plansEducation and Experience RequiredComputer Science Engineering degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience in embedded/real-time systemsSpecialized Knowledge, Skills & AbilitesExtensive understanding of LinuxSolid understanding of DPDK, VPP, XDP, eBPFSolid knowledge in CPU architectures (memory BUS, PCI bus, L1/L2/L3 cache) including Intel processors or ARM and in virtualization environmentsStrong coding experience in C, C++ for embedded/real-time applicationsStrong multithreading and performance-oriented programming skills,Knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals, including application layer, firewalls (Linux iptables), IPsec, BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, MPLS and MEFAbility to generate and deliver operation and diagnostic training material; Ability to summarize complex problems, solutions and recommendations; Ability to thoroughly document technical requirements in specificationsStrong communication skills including presentation of technical material to groupsWorking ConditionsApproximately 30% of time may be at operations facilities, including during construction phase; Approximately 70% of time is expected to be in a general office environment (which may include work for home or hotel); Travel, supportof projects across multiple time zones and other project requirements will at times require work outside Telesat standard workday hours; International travel is required; candidates must confirmthat they have no national/international travel limitations or visa restrictions; The successful candidate must be able to legally work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
