Eng required (BC or Alberta)* Solid understanding of soil mechanics, slope stability, geohazards, and related construction services * Excellent growth and professional development opportunity with a well-established, employee-owned engineering consulting firm Who are you?  You’re a senior-level geological or geotechnical engineer, with leadership experience, looking for an exciting opportunity to work on varied projects, mentor and guide intermediate and junior staff, and provide technical oversight using your expertise.  Who is the employer?  Our client is a Canadian consulting company specializing in geotechnical, environmental, construction materials engineering and testing, with offices in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.  Founded over 60 years ago, they are a private, employee-owned company, who take great pride in both their technical expertise and deep commitment to their employees.  They are a focused, driven, and collaborative group of professionals, passionate about solving problems related to related to earth, the environment, and construction materials, across a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.  What you’ll be doing As the new Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will specialize in the application of geotechnical engineering on linear infrastructure projects, with a specific focus on pipelines and geohazards. You will work primarily from our Calgary office, with occasional travel to the field as required to provide supervision or coverage.  You will be responsible for:  * Providing technical support and leadership on projects and for staff, including conducting technical reviews of calculations and analyses, as well as performing technical analyses where appropriate.* Providing guidance, and where necessary, support in coordination, preparation of cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client reports, progress reports, project scheduling / resourcing, and meeting deadlines and budgets on projects.* Scoping projects and assisting in the preparation of proposals.* Mentoring, coaching, and training of staff.* Working with the Branch Manager in the development of new business opportunities.* Establishing, developing, promoting and maintaining relationships with clients.* Actively participating in the field on a project specific basis as dictated by the needs of the project to meet client expectations and project objectives.* Managing projects and leading multidisciplinary teams.* Traveling to project locations, as well as to client offices and other branch offices The very best in this role will bring more than solid geotechnical understanding and experience. They will also bring a strong sense of leadership, combined with a proven track record of success as a leader, mentor and coach to their team. They will also bring a strong understanding of Western Canadian geomorphology and associated landforms, processes, and hazards, and how to engineer for them.  Qualifications  * P. Eng in BC or Alberta * Minimum 15 years of experience in Geotechnical or Geological engineering, with local Canadian experience preferred (good understanding of Western Canadian geomorphology, and associated landforms, processes, and hazards is required)* Completion of a post-secondary program in Civil or Geological Engineering.* Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites.* Valid Class 5 Driver’s license, and comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments.* Membership with APEGA and/or EGBC. And here’s what would be an asset:  * Graduate degree (Masters or higher).* Ability to conduct desktop and field level terrain assessments.* Experienced in the interpretation and utilization of aerial photographs, as well as satellite and LiDAR imagery in the assessment of terrain and geohazards.* Experienced in the use of commercial analytical software packages in the assessment of slope stability.* Pipeline routing and trenchless crossing assessments.* Familiar with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring of geohazards. Your Application We value diversity and inclusion and encourage all qualified people to apply.
